We at St. James School respect the dignity of God’s children. All children have a right to a good education. In addition to the pursuit of academic excellence, we hope that a St. James education will prepare children to live and work with others and to view all people as brothers and sisters. To support this goal, the following considerations are made in accepting students at St. James School.
- There is no discrimination on the basis of race, sex, national origin, sexual orientation or handicapping condition (if, with reasonable adaptation on the part of the school, the handicapped person can be accommodated) in accordance with the law. Children of all faiths are welcome and are expected to participate in the religious education program of the school.
- The following priorities will be considered in accepting students where there are more applicants than places available:
A. Children (parishioners and non-parishioners) presently enrolled in the school
B. Parishioners and non-parishioners who have had children in the school in the past
C. Parishioners on a waiting list - Previous school records will be required. At the school’s discretion, a placement test will be conducted prior to admission.
- Age, as determined by the child’s birth certificate, will be considered regarding grade placement.
Decisions about admission of children from the pre-registration waiting list will be based on the following factors:
a. Children of St. James and St. Joseph Parishes
b. Time of registration (admission will be first-come, first accepted)
c. Openings in a particular classroom (there may be room for a second grade student, but not for a fifth grade student)
